I admit I love to look at before and after photos. It doesn't matter if the subject is a wardrobe makeover, the next best cosmetic or rebuilds on cars. I love them. But I do have a favorite kind of Before & After (and HGTV caters to this passion). My passion in a Before & After is home repair. (A little Curb Appeal anyone?)
Accent Custom Masonry does a lot of these little gems. We had a beautiful one earlier this year. The material is Pennsylvania Blue Flagstone. Let me tell you before you get to see these photos, they do not do justice to how pretty this stone is in person. It comes in a variety of colors, all naturally occurring of course, including grays, blues, greens and browns.
You can see from the photo above that this existing patio needed some TLC. To avoid this on your flagstone DO NOT use salt or other ice melters as it degrades the cement between the stones.
What the picture doesn't tell you is that this homeowner chose to incorporate a heating system beneath the flagstone so they won't need to use ice melter in the future.

This garage used to be a small 2 car because it was built around the turn of the 20th century. The brick was recycled from the original building and used to cover the front and wainscot (partially cover) the sides.
After this family got a chance to use the fire pit they continued with their summer room remodel. This wall was done with a pop out and basket weave patter to match the existing decorative brickwork on the other side of the house.
This retaining wall was done to match an existing wall. This wall was constructed with block and veneered (covered) in stone. Retaining walls can be made out of a couple of materials, standard CMU block or retaining wall block such as Allen Block.

This gas grill is a beautiful addition to an amazing backyard. The countertops are Sebastian flagstone. The mortar is colored to match the existing stonework on the home.
This unique fire pit was converted from an existing pond structure. Fire pits can be created in many shapes.
